About Dr. Johnston-Jones
Clinical Psychologist Dr. Jennifer Johnston-Jones, Ph.D. is the author of Transformational Parenting and Transformational Education, acclaimed books that educate parents and teachers on raising joyful and resilient children. With over 25 years as a psychotherapist and more than 19 years as a psychologist (licensed in both Colorado and California), she is considered an expert in her field. Dr. Johnston-Jones's Whole School, Whole Child Program has been shown to prevent and reduce bullying, anxiety and depression. Her integration of neuroscience with psychology is unique and provides her with an expansive set of interventions to help people develop into their best selves. She is trained in the most effective brain developing treatments such as Interpersonal Neurobiology, Neuropsychology, Neurofeedback, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Hypnosis, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Positive Discipline Parent Education, Psychodynamic therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Her academic background includes training at the University of Oregon, California School of Professional Psychology, the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, St. John’s Hospital, and the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. She helps parents raise joyful and resilient children, helps schools integrate social and emotional learning, and helps people effectively regulate their emotions,. Dr. Johnston-Jones is a full member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology. She has an extensive speaking background including training teachers in schools, national television appearances, keynoting universities and conferences as well as extensive parent education keynotes.

Dr. Johnston-Jones's career started at the Children's Hospital - Los Angeles, where she began her professional activism for helping children. Her work with youth continued in South Los Angeles where she provided teacher and parent education, led a therapeutic team and conducted research and interventions on preventing violence in and out of the home. Dr. Johnston-Jones' academic background includes neuropsychological research at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Harbor UCLA Hospital. She was able to work deeply with severe mental illness and trauma at San Bernardino County Mental Health. In private practice, she helped many families learn to co-parent, find solutions for children that are struggling, navigate divorce and repair their marriages.
Dr. Johnston-Jones has also been very active bringing psychology into schools, founding a preschool, and running a non-profit providing Social and Emotional Learning training to teachers and students in schools across the West Coast. Her hospital work continued at St. John's hospital where she ran a therapeutic preschool and parent education program. Through partnerships with the Santa Monica-Malibu School District, Calvary Christian School and Our Lady of Malibu School to bring parent education and social and emotional learning into schools, she's helped co-create direct positive impact for students and teachers. In particular, she loves educational curriculums that follow the neurodevelopment of children such as Montessori and Waldorf schools. Dr. Johnston-Jones is Waldorf (Steiner) trained at the Waldorf Institute of Southern California, founded a Waldorf-inspired preschool on 12 acres, and has sat on the board of a Waldorf school. She's the author of Transformational Parenting, listed as a top parenting book by USA today, as well as co-author of Transformational Education, which helps guide teachers to bring social and emotional learning into their classrooms. She was awarded the Honorary Service Award from California PTA for her dedication to children.
She enjoys keynoting and presenting to educators, clinicians and parents around the country about evidence-based psychology to help prevent childhood trauma and grow a peaceful future. She's been featured in USA Today, Fast Company, Enterprising Women, Success, ABC, NBC, Fox News, and the LA Times, to name a few. She received her psychology education from American Psychological Association Accredited University of Oregon and Alliant University; as well as training from the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the Children's Collective, the County of San Bernardino Behavioral Health, and the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Dr. Johnston-Jones lives in Colorado with her husband and two children.
